We're Moving

E-mail Print PDF

Relax. We're not leaving Mazatlan. We are just moving to a different house. After two years of living in this wonderful house, we have decided that our location here on the hill just doesn't suit us. This is why I always recommend that newcomers rent in the area they are thinking about before they buy.

One of the biggest things for us is the hill itself. Its a steep climb. We kept thinking it would get easier, but when we observed our neighbors, who have been making the climb for years, still huffing and puffing their way up, we realized it is just a hard climb. Consequently, we take the truck when we go out more often than I would like just to avoid having to make the climb at the end of the day.

I am also ready to move all of our electronics and appliances an few blocks inland. I am not ready for another Summer of computer CPR. Nothing has actually died, but the stress is just awful. Plus, all my cast iron is starting to look like relics from the Titanic.

I think we are both anxious to take the training wheels off. This neighborhood was great when we were new and scared. Having English-speaking neighbors was a blessing and made things so much easier, but now we are ready to live in a Spanish-speaking area.

Living on a steep street that abruptly dead ends after four houses has done miracles to keep it quiet. No traffic. No buses. It's been lovely. But it also means no gas guy, water guy, fruit vendor, brush man, or tortilla guy. If you want gas, you have to call the gas company or catch the truck when it sits at the top of the street. You have to work out signals with the water guy who comes every few days. Everything else, you have to go out and get yourself.

If I said I didn't cry the first time we contemplated leaving our house and its amazing view, I would be lying. I did. But as I spent more time contemplating the idea (months), I realized that I really did want to move. I am anxious now to get to our new home. The anticipation is killing me.

Now if we could just find a magical way to have already found the perfect house and have our stuff already there and waiting for us. I am so pumped to be moved. I just don't want to do the actual moving.

Wow, out of the blue! So how is the house hunting going?

I love being back here hiding behind icebox hill...and I hope you find the perfect place for you!

If you need any help looking at places, I'd be happy to help, you know.

Every time we think we have found the perfect place, we are told it was just rented. It's very frustrating. We are looking high and low, so hopefully we will find something soon. I am ready to be in a new place.
