Not for the reasons most people think. I have no fear of armed marauders, highwaymen, con men, or the like. What I'm referring to is more insidious. I'm talking about the real danger in Mexico - Addiction! Spending time in Mexico can leave you battling a number of addictions.
Chief among them are wonderful, fresh fruits and vegetables. I'm talking about a quality of fruits and vegetables that most mortals will never encounter. This is the produce that all other produce aspires to be. Even the best of the produce we get at home is a poor imitation. We've been back for 3 months now and I still find myself craving fresh produce and being disappointed by what I get.
Another item that will leave you in withdrawal is seafood. A person can easily get accustomed to fresh shrimp at every meal. For me, in some ways this addiction is easier and harder to deal with than any other. Easier because I'm already used to not eating shrimp on a regular basis. So I'm just returning to the status quo. Harder, because it brings back memories of a time when I did eat shrimp on a regular basis. I grew up visiting the Texas coast every summer. We'd buy as much fresh shrimp as we could cram into coolers, freeze it before we left and return home with our bounty. It was never enough to last all year. So I already know what the course will be for this drying out. It was years before I could order seafood, especially shrimp in a restaurant, or buy frozen seafood in the grocery store and enjoy it without thinking about how much better it would be fresh. I expect I'm back to square one. It'll probably be quite a while before I can sit down in a restaurant and enjoy a shrimp dinner.
There are many other things as well, fresh-made tortillas with no preservatives being very high on that list, but I don't want to scare you completely away from Mexico. Travel to Mexico and enjoy all the wonderful experiences waiting to be had. However carry this warning with you that your life may never be the same.

1. Daily walks on the beach.
2. Kas grapefruit soda.
3. Mexican ketchup. It tastes more like tomatos, has less sugar, and so thick you can stand a french fry on end in it.
4. Beautiful pastry.
5. Food without chemicals. Almost everything is made freash daily without chemicals or preservatives, and boy howdy is it good.
