The 13 Wonders of Mexico (Maravillas de Mexico), a competition organized by TV Azteca and the Council of Tourist Promotion Mexico (CPTM), ended on September 25 with Mazatlan chosen as one of the 13 Man Made Wonders of Mexico. Mazatlan competed with over 40 other locations in Mexico in the 10-week contest which received 1.5 million votes. Now the celebrations start.
Mazatlan will celebrate this honor on November 17 in typical Mazatleco style: a parade with queens, music, food, and, of course, a statue. The parade will start at 4:00 pm on Saturday on Avenida Deportiva and travel along Avenida del Mar and end at the traffic roundabout in front of Valentino's where a plaque will be dedicated. The plaque is a place holder for the statue that the state of Sinaloa has commissioned. When completed, the statue will be placed in the center of the traffic circle.
After the dedication of the plaque, the celebration will continue to the Plazuela Machado where there will be gourmet dishes to sample that are typical of the region, live music from Banda sinaloense, dancing, an activities for children.
