El Canucks del Leon Opening Soon

E-mail Print PDF

Ever since Canuck's closed, rumors have been flying about what is going to become of the fabulous location and venue. It's going to be a biker bar named Pinups. No, it's going to open next month as a sports bar named Peanuts. No, a Mexican National is going to open it up as a banda club. Wait, I heard the Olas Altas Steakhouse is going to take it over. No way. Pacifico sold the location to a developer and they're going to demolish it and build condos. Well, I can tell you it's all wrong. It is going to open very soon as...drum roll please...El Canuck's del León. Yep. Alejandro Castillo of La Cueva del León will be opening it very soon as a fresh seafood restaurant and community venue.

Ugh. I'm Terrible

E-mail Print PDF

I have been an incredibly bad blogger lately. And, I hate to say, it's going to continue for a bit. The good news is it's because I'm inundated with work. I don't use the term casually, either. I am past the point where I would have been turning down work back when we lived in the US. But I know that summer is coming, and things will get really s-l-o-w. I am trying to be a good little squirrel and store up all the nuts I can. So, I am scheduling start dates on projects further and further in the future. I still have seven active projects right now, and it will probably keep up this way for another 6-8 weeks. After spending 12 hours straight sitting here on my duff programming, I just can't sit here any longer to write for the blog.

On the Bright Side

E-mail Print PDF

My Parents were here for a visit. It was way too short - only one week. It is the first time I have seen them since we moved down here. The day we took them to the airport to see them off was a very maudlin kind of day, with all of us struggling not to cry. We got them checked in, and then delayed until the last possible minute to finally escort them up the escalator and to the security gate. I was dragging my feet through the last-chance-to-buy-authentic-one-of-a-kind-mass-produced-Mexican-souvenirs section when I looked to the left and spotted a Carl's Jr and perked right up.

Christmas Tamales

E-mail Print PDF

For the first two thirds of my life, I hated tamales. Despised them. Would actually avert my eyes if someone was eating them in front of me. This probably has something to do with the fact that my mother bought canned tamales. That's right; tamales in a can. I can't think of many food things that are more gross. Thankfully, one Christmas Eve, I had an epiphany.

A Pizza Mega Craving

E-mail Print PDF

The first time I went to Chicago, I was lucky enough to stumble into a Giordano's on my very first day. I was in love. Giordano's does a stuffed deep-dish pizza. What's that, you ask? It's a deep-dish pizza with another layer. They take a deep dish pizza pan, line it with dough, fill it with cheese and ingredients, and then top it with another layer of dough. Then the whole thing is topped with tomato sauce and Parmesan. It's awesome squared.
