Jennifer [1]: The Mystery Box [2]

House [3]

We have a large and fairly useless construct in our bathroom. It's kind of a large, tile box - with faucets. I think it's supposed to be a bathtub, but it is rather useless. There is a small pipe set into the tile that drains into the shower. I haven't yet been able to figure a way to adequately plug it. Even if I did, with our gravity-fed water, it would take 5 days to fill the ginormous thing.

I have often pondered what could possibly be the purpose. Supposing I could manage to fill it with warm water, then what? I would have a big rectangle full of water. It's hard and full of angles, so I can't imagine it would be very comfortable. And there is room for four people. I guess I could swim.

We tried to use it as a dog wash. The problem is that the hot and cold faucets are separate, so we had to use a large bowl to collect water, and then pour the water over the dogs, which is very inconvenient when you have an arm full of wet dog. Plus, it's so big, I can't reach over the side. I have to actually climb in with them, which defeats the purpose. I may as well take them with me in the shower. And then there is the problem created by the dogs' absolute fear of it. We finally bought a long hose and sprayer and wash them on the service porch.

Now that Summer is coming, I finally have a use for it. I hate wearing shoes. I would run around barefoot all the time if I could. I am usually shoeless at home. It's comfortable, plus having my feet in contact with the tile floors is a great way to keep cool in the hot Mazatlan Summer. The only drawback is my feet get dirty. The tub makes a great foot wash.

Oh, but, Jennifer... this is MEXICO! Just think of all the possibilities.... how about a 'lounging tub'.... redesigned and, with a few buckets of cement, some new tile, and your imaginative mind..... a place to relax, with the contours of a lounger, all freshly tiled and still with plenty of room to soak your tired tootsies! Look at what we did with bricks, cement, tile and imagination! Ken loved soaking in his little tub, and I enjoy having a nice big bench to sit on while scrubbing my own tootsies. Check here:

Now.... what plans do you have for your tub?

Thanks for the encouragement, Lee. I love what you have done with that small space. And I am really envious of your seat!

But, we rent. I don't think the owner would endorse me making changes to his...whatever that is in my bathroom =)
