Paperwork [3]
We know that you can get your FMT and Temporary Car Permit at the border, but we wanted to get ours ahead of time. It has been described as couple hour procedure, and we are going to have the dogs with us. That means Chuck goes in and gets his FMT and the car permit while I wait in the car with the dogs. Then when he comes back, I go get my FMT. Ugh.

The local newspapers reported recently that a new satellite office of the Mexican Consulate has opened in Fort Worth. Its located in the Northside Community Center and open from 7am-1pm. We were very glad to hear this, and the timing was fortuitous because we do everything in our power to avoid going to Dallas. This morning Chuck and I went over there to get our paperwork taken care of.

The building has several doors, and all of them lead to separate spaces. There is no hallway system connecting everything inside. The doors are not marked and there are no signs. On our first try, we ended up in the Head Start office. The lady there directed us to the proper door and we found the Consular office.

The satellite office is one big room with a desk placed in front of the door. We waited in the line outside the door and eventually made our way to the desk. The woman in charge gave us a blank look when we told her we were there to get FMTs and a car permit. Finally, she said, “Only in Dallas.”

Apparently the newspapers reported incorrect information. The satellite office in Fort Worth only takes care of Matricula Consular Cards, Passports, and Temporary Car Permits for Mexican citizens. Crap. Now we have to go to Dallas.
