Almost no one uses the mail system here. All of our bills are hand delivered. There is practically no direct mail marketing. When someone has a sales circular or flyer to distribute, they hire people to stand at busy intersections and hand them out to passing motorists. Some people refuse them, but I always eagerly stick my hand out the window when it's my turn. The ads are a good basic Spanish lesson and a great way to find out about small stores in the area.

Today, I was sitting at a stop light there was a guy handing out small yellow flyers. I thought this was a little odd, because companies usually hire pretty girls in high heels for the job, all the better to get you to roll down your window and take the advertisement, but, whatever, I'm all for equal opportunity. To my dismay, the light changed before he got far enough down the lane to give me a flyer. So I drove forward with my arm out the window, ready to take mine on the fly. He saw me coming and was holding one out for me, but when I got close enough for him to see my face, he averted his eyes. Hmmm. Strange. But at least I still got my flyer.

I didn't have time to deal with it right then, seeing as how I was driving and all, so I thrust it at Chuck. As I maneuvered my way into the Sorianna parking lot, Chuck exclaimed, "Oh! Porn!" No wonder the flyer dude was a guy, and he wouldn't look me in the eye. After I parked, I took the flyer from Chuck and looked at it. It was an advertisement for an adult book store with the usual videos, toys, and paraphernalia. As I scanned the page, one phrase caught my eye: Servicio a Domicilio.

Chuck and I joke about the fact that, here in Mazatlan, you can have anything delivered, but sometimes it still surprises me. You really can have anything delivered. It made us wonder, does the scooter that delivers have the name on the store emblazoned on the delivery box like everyone else? Or do they take more of the plain brown wrapper approach? Because, really, do you want your neighbors to know you are getting an emergency porn delivery?
