Jennifer [1]: Agua, Agua, Everywhere... [2]

Shopping [3]

So far, we have been unable to get water. Okay, we've gone to the store and gotten gallon jugs of water, but we can't seem to catch the water truck. There are many goods and services here that are acquired by catching the right truck (or cart) driving down the street. The propane truck cruises down our street several times a day playing the “gas, gas, gas” song over the loudspeaker. If you need your propane tank filled, you just go outside and wave when you hear him. Likewise, the guys pushing the carts yell what they are selling and you go outside to buy. Theoretically, the same is true for water.

We covet those 5 gallon jars of water we see. All we can manage is a gallon jug from the local tienda. The problem is our water guy drives fast. You have to be really on your toes. Invariably, we hear him while we are still laying in bed – about 6:45 am. There is no way we can get up and dressed fast enough. Yesterday, we got up and dressed early. He didn't drive by until 10:00 am, when we were out back hanging laundry. Twice now, we have gotten as far as the front door, just as he is turning the corner and gone from the street.

This morning, I did it. I caught the water guy! I can't tell you how proud I was to manage to get water. I heard the loudspeaker, ran outside, waved my arms like and idiot, and called out “agua aqui!” The water guy smiled, came over to me, and explained that the lady across the street just bought his last two bottles.
