I Am Mazatlan

E-mail Print PDF

I finally took some time off around the New Year. I didn't do any work, but that doesn't mean I stayed away from my computer. I used some of my time to work on a project that has been in my mind. I thought it would be fun to do a series of images that merge the wonderful people around me with this incredible environment. I think it turned out pretty well. Well enough, in fact, that I am doing my first picture blog.

Bodie and the Jungle

Most people here know Bodie. He works hard with Conrehabit. His most recent project has been helping a mountain village attract ecotourism and the dollars it brings by preserving and caring for their unique environment.

Romeo the Peacock

This is the eldest son of a friend of mine. He has recently discovered the wonderful world of girls, and consequently spends an inordinate amount of time showering and asking if this belt goes with these shoes. You should see him preen and strut.

Michele

I took this picture of Michelle during the Mother's Day Pageant at her school this year. For her dance, she wore a traditional costume and carried one of the beautiful hand-woven baskets that are made in a village nearby.

Sweet Antonio

I met this sweet, shy boy at a quinceaƱera we attended. He and his sister posed repeatedly for my camera and erupted into delighted giggles every time I showed them the results in my view screen.

Michael

I love our friend Michael. He has a generous heart and a bohemian soul. I usually see him near the beach and the ocean. He was kind enough to give me all sorts of faces for my project. Since he looked like he was holding his breath, I thought an underwater scene would be fun.

Adorable Magui

I met Magui and her parents one evening at Puerto Viejo when they stopped briefly to listen to the band. Magui's father gave me permission to photograph her and the somewhat tattered flower she was carrying..

If you would like to see larger versions of these pictures, that are available in the I Am Mazatlan album in the photo gallery.
