I am one of those people who others really like or really don't. There aren't many in the world who are luke warm toward me. And those that do like me, tend to like me in spite of my quirks, not because of them. So I am continually astounded and desperately grateful that I have this exquisite man who loves every peculiarity, every annoyance, every mildly alarming indication of a psychotic break.
He has been my rock through so much this year: the death of my cousin, and the more recent death of my uncle, multiple hospitalizations of my mother, the brain injury of my sister. Through it all, he has supported me with tender, loving empathy. I am uncomfortable with sympathy and I don't like to wallow, so there is a fine tightrope he walks between consolation and tribulation, and he walks it well, providing me with exactly what I need.
He is my reason for waking up in the morning, my joy in each day, and brings vibrancy to my life. My life with him has been replete with adventure, tenderness, laughter, intimacy, and acceptance. I am blessed with his presence not just near me, but with me, always. Happy birthday Chuck.
